| Jeffrey N. Weiss,
M.D. Dr. Weiss was the youngest student to be accepted by the State
University of New York-Downstate Medical Center on full scholarship after three years of
college. During his first year of medical school he also completed the course
requirements for his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and graduated magna cum
laude with distinction. Three years later he graduated from medical school with his
M.D. degree, summa cum laude.
After his internship in general surgery and a three year residency in
ophthalmology, Dr. Weiss completed additional postgraduate training. His first
fellowship was at Harvard University and The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his
second fellowship was at Joslin Diabetes Center and New England Deaconess Hospital.
Three years later he was appointed Chief of Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Joslin Diabetes
Center.
His academic appointments include: Instructor, Harvard Medical School;
Visiting Scientist, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and, Associate Investigator,
Joslin Research Laboratory. He also directed the Ophthalmic Laser Research
Laboratory at Joslin Diabetes Center which was funded by grants from the Federal
Government and awards from the National and International Lions Clubs.
Dr. Weiss has served as a Visiting Professor in Taiwan and in American
Samoa. In addition, he has been a consultant to: the Federal Government
Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Program in the South Pacific; several clinics in Africa and
New Guinea; and several major ophthalmic companies in the United States.
Dr. Weiss is the author of many articles and book chapters dealing with diseases
of the retina and vitreous and their treatment. In addition, he has invented new
devices for ophthalmic use and has patents granted or pending.
Dr. Weiss is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a
Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and of the American Board of
Ophthalmology. |
