N. Weiss, M.D.
Dr.
Weiss was the youngest student to be accepted by the State University
of New York-Downstate Medical Center on full scholarship after
three years of college. During his first year of medical
school he also completed the course requirements for his bachelor's
degree in electrical engineering and graduated magna cum laude
with distinction. Three years later he graduated from
medical school with his M.D. degree, summa cum laude.
After his internship in general surgery and a three year residency
in ophthalmology, Dr. Weiss completed additional postgraduate training. His
first fellowship was at Harvard University and The Massachusetts Institute
of Technology and his second fellowship was at Joslin Diabetes Center and
New England Deaconess Hospital.
Three years later he was appointed Chief of Vitreoretinal Surgery at the
Joslin Diabetes Center. Dr. Weiss
is President, Retina Associates of South Florida.
His academic appointments include: Instructor, Harvard Medical
School; Visiting Scientist, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and,
Associate Investigator, Joslin Research Laboratory. He also directed
the Ophthalmic Laser Research Laboratory at Joslin Diabetes Center which
was funded by grants from the Federal Government and awards from the National
and International Lions Clubs.
Dr.
Weiss is an Adjunct Professor of Biomedical and Electrical Engineering
at Florida Atlantic University.
Dr.
Weiss has served as a Visiting Professor in Taiwan, American Samoa and
China and as a consultant to the Federal Government Diabetic Retinopathy
Screening Program in the South Pacific. He also has served as a
consultant to several major ophthalmic companies. Dr. Weiss lectures
extensively, in the U.S. and internationally.
Dr.
Weiss is the author of many articles and book chapters dealing with diseases
of the retina and vitreous and their treatment. Dr. Weiss is the
developer of the instruments and method to safely cannulate and inject
medications into retinal blood vessels. This technique has the potential
to help hundred of thousands of patients worldwide. He has over
20 patents, issued or pending, worldwide.
Dr. Weiss is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
He is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners
and of the American Board of Ophthalmology. |
